Differences between a BA and BS
The main difference between the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science lies in their specific focus, with the BA having a liberal arts emphasis and the BS highlighting lab coursework and statistical training. However, both degrees share about 90% of their coursework and can prepare you for a wide range of career paths in fields like counseling, child development and neuroscience. In both programs, you’ll have the opportunity to tailor your studies through areas of concentration based on your desired career path.
Professional field experience
Professional field experience, also known as PFE, combines applied experience in the field with didactic discourse in an online environment. The applied component allows you to apply psychological principles in real-world settings, while the didactic discourse helps you reflect on those experiences and build meaningful connections with professionals in your field of interest. PFE is a three-credit course in your program that provides you flexibility and opportunities to engage in field placement over a 7.5-week session.
Research opportunities for online students
The NCUIRE program allows online students studying psychology to engage in fully remote, hands-on research. This program offers real-world research experiences, giving you the opportunity to work alongside fellow online students on team projects or individually in assistantships for faculty members. Participating in these opportunities can provide you with valuable mentorship and the chance to contribute to impactful research in the early stages of your academic career.
