Tuition Assistance benefits and scholarship opportunities

Welcome to Arizona State University!

First, we thank you for your service and dedication to our country.

As a future ASU student, you’ll need to complete some steps to take advantage of the Tuition Assistance program offered by your military branch. Keep in mind, the availability of TA benefits varies by command and every situation is different.

Steps to request TA benefits

1
Request transcripts.
Prior to your admission, make sure you have requested your military transcripts, in case you have any transferable military credits.

2
Register for classes.
After receiving an admission decision, you’ll begin registering for classes based on your degree program.
  • If you’re an undergraduate student, you’ll use the DARS tool to view your degree progress and determine which classes to register for. View this guide to learn how to access and review your DARS audit.

  • If you're a graduate student, you’ll use your Interactive Program of Study (iPOS) to view your degree and course requirements. Watch this video to learn how to access and understand the iPOS tool.

For additional help, contact your academic advisor. To find the advisor for your degree program, visit My ASU and view the “Academic Support Team” box.

3
Complete the Benefits Responsibility Form.
Fill out the Benefits Responsibility Form to notify the Pat Tillman Veterans Center of your intent to use TA or VA education benefits. You’ll fill out this form only once while at ASU.

Please note that this form contains important information regarding the use of TA and VA benefits throughout your school enrollment. You will receive a confirmation email indicating you have completed the form.

4
Complete the necessary paperwork to receive your TA voucher from your unit.
Each military branch has its own TA application form and procedures. To get started, visit a local or virtual education center to learn more about TA based on your branch. You can also check out our active duty military checklist for specific steps to use Tuition Assistance at ASU.

Please make sure your military branch approves and funds your TA by the first day of class to avoid financial repercussions.

5
Submit your approved and funded tuition assistance form through Pat Tillman Veterans Center Forms website each session.
Please note: Once your approved and funded voucher is received, a $75 third-party billing fee will be added to your student account. Payment of your TA will be made directly to ASU by your branch of service.

As an online undergraduate student, you may qualify for the ASU Military Active Duty & Reservist Commitment Scholarship. If you meet the eligibility requirements, the scholarship will go into effect once your approved and funded TA has been applied to your student account.

The funds will automatically be added and cover your remaining tuition amount within two weeks after your session start date, with no additional steps needed from you.

Keep in mind that this scholarship will not cover any Student Initiated Fees, such as your FA Trust ASUOnline fee, or the $75 third party billing fee. For more information about tuition and fee descriptions, please visit the Tuition and Fee Descriptions webpage.

Additional criteria:

  • In order to be eligible for this scholarship, you must be enrolled as an online undergraduate student using Military Tuition Assistance benefits.

  • Since this scholarship is applied based on the individual classes you submitted your TA for, you will need to submit your approved and funded TA for each new session in order for it to apply.

  • You must request the full amount of TA funding for each course, regardless of the amount of TA funding you may have remaining for the Fiscal Year (FY).

  • This means that if you’re enrolled in a 3-credit hour course, and you have 1 credit hour of TA funding remaining, you should request the TA at 3 credit hours, if your branch allows. ASU will cover the difference in tuition for that course with partial TA funding.

  • If the TA is approved at $0 in funding, this is considered a self-funded course, and it will not be eligible to receive scholarship funding.
